In academic writing, it has always been a controversial topic: What format is better to write scientific articles? Authors prefer the MLA (Modern Language Association) says that this format is concise and simpler than any other format. Academic scholars in favor of the APA (American Psychological Association) argue that APA-style, also known as scientific research paper format is developed according to the needs of psychologists and social scientists.

Point No. 1: Who are the users?
MLA style of writing used by individuals degrees in humanities, English or literature. On the other hand, follow students at the Faculty of Social Sciences APA format. Scientific and literary journals require submission of articles either in an APA style or MLA style of writing.
Point No. 2: In-Text Citation
In-text reference to both these formats differ a little way. MLA style generally include the last name of a author and page number in parenthesis such as (Marx 11) whereas the APA style of writing includes the last name of an author along with the date of publication, such as (Ali 1986).
Point No. 3: Bibliography

Bibliography presented as "Works Cited Page" in an MLA style of writing and "Reference" page in an APA style of writing. Surname of authors used alphabetically for each of these formats in a bibliography. For sources of more than three authors, MLA style requires the use of "et al" after the name of the first author.
In APA style, follows each name of several authors of their last name with their first initials for up to six authors. For more than six authors, "et al" is used after the name of the first author under the guidelines that the University (ASU).

MLA style of writing does not require a title page, but students must provide a title page in APA style of writing. Title page of an APA style of writing should include the title of your paper, your name and the name of your department.
Headers are used for both kinds of writing style. Header in an APA writing style starts with running heads and all subsequent pages follow title and page number. Header in MLA style starts on the first page with the name of an author and page number.
Point No. 5: Headings and sub-areas
MLA style has no specific rules to produce headlines. You can present the headlines in any way you want, unless restricted by your professor. APA writing style following three levels of heading. Level one header should be centralized in an APA format. Level two and three positions should be presented in left and italicized. Level 1 heading is to the main section of the paper, level two heading is used for subheadings & level 3 heading is used if there is a break in a subheading.
