1. Govt aims to increase potential growth of Bio-fuels in India, says P&NG Minister

The Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday said that there is a large potential of Bio-Fuel business in India to grow from present Rs. 6500 crore to Rs. 1 lakh crore in the next 10 years, while speaking at the National Conference on “Energy Security for India-Creating a Biofuel Economy”, on the occasion of the World Bio-Fuel Day in New Delhi.

2. Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh join “UDAY” scheme

Puducherry on Wednesday signed an MoU with Government of India under the UDAY (Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana) scheme for operational turnaround of the Union Territory‘s Electricity Department.

With this development, Puducherry became the first Union Territory of India to formally join the UDAY scheme. It will accrue an overall net benefit of approximately Rs.  
378 crore by way of cheaper funds, reduction in AT&C and transmission losses, interventions in energy efficiency, etc..

3.Finance Minister Jaitley introduces Taxation and Laws Amendment Bill in Lok Sabha

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday introduced the Taxation and Laws (Amendment) Bill-2016 in the Lok Sabha. The Bill aims to further amend the Income Tax Act 1961 and Custom tariff Act 1975.

The enactment of proposed Bill is to facilitate the splitting up or the reconstruction of erstwhile public sector companies and to give effect to the condition attached to the transfer of shares by the government.

The enactment of the proposed Bill will also enable the government to fix appropriate effective rate of customs duty on marble and granite blocks, said the statement of objects and reasons for the Bill.

4.Govt to set up Committee to review FDI, e-commerce Rules

The Union Government has decided to constitute a committee to look into all issues including foreign direct investment (FDI) norms pertaining to the fast growing e-commerce industry in the country.

The committee will be headed by the NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant. The other members in the committee include officials from the Commerce and Industry Ministry and Department of Electronics and IT, among others.

5.Centre urges strict action against Miscreants in name of Cow Protection

Centre has asked all the states and Union Territories of India (UTIs) not to tolerate any untoward incidents, particularly attacks on individuals, in the name of protection of cow. The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday issued an advisory notice to the Chief Secretaries of all the states and UTIs asking to ensure that any person who takes law into his hands is dealt with promptly and given strictly punishment.

“Historically, cattle have a very special, respected and venerated status in Indian culture and history. In this regard, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi had stated that Cow protection to him is not mere protection of the cow. It means protection of that lives, which is helpless and weak in the world”, the advisory stated.

6.PM Modi, Russian President Putin to dedicate Kudankulam Nuclear Plant Unit-I today

The first unit of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant will be dedicated to nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa jointly through video conferencing on Wednesday.
The video conferencing function will be organised among the three leaders in their respective capitals and the fourth point will be at the plant site at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu, where Nuclear Power Corporation Chairman SK Sharma, Russian company Atomstroy Export President Limareenko and site Director Sundar will be attending.

The first unit of Kudankulam nuclear power plant attained criticality in July 2013. Till now more than 10,800 million units of power has been generated from the first unit. It was synchronized with southern power grid on October 22 in 2013 and commercial power generation started by the end of December 2014.

7.PM Modi appeals Kashmiri Youths to shun Violence

PM Narendra Modi, who became the first Prime Minister of India to visit the native village of Freedom Fighter and Martyr Chandrashekhar Azad at Bhavra, in Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh, has spoken out on the Kashmir unrest.
