How about Isla Espiritu Santo- a Tourist Must See

in Travel / Tourism by Terry Neal on 01/05/2018

Cabo San Lucas has become one of the fastest growing vacation spots in Mexico since the small fishing town gained popularity in the early 1980s, today bringing in millions of tourists per year. A number of fun activities in the water are available in Cabo, with an array of charters companies to choose from. And while there is more than one sailing catamaran in Cabo offering some fantastic excursions, none of them can give guests what Island Cat can.

Located in La Paz, the sailing catamaran Island Cat is a luxurious vessel, spacious enough to easily accommodate up to 35 guests without crowding. Being located in La Paz offers guests of Island Cat more than one advantage over chartering a catamaran in Cabo. As the 2nd most biologically diverse ocean in the world, the Sea of Cortez, often called the Gulf of California, is a virtual jackpot of abundant marine life. In fact, famed oceanographer Jacques Cousteau once famously referred to the Sea of Cortez as “the world‘s aquarium”.

Isla Espiritu Santo borders the northeast portion of the Bay of La Paz and is considered the crown jewel of the islands of the Gulf, and the primary tourist destination of the area, with world-class diving, snorkeling, and kayaking. Espiritu Santo is federally protected by the Mexican Government as part of the Flora and Fauna Protection Area - Gulf of California Islands (APFF-IGC), and in 1995 became listed as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. It is also a favorite destination of Island Cat‘s guests.

The adventure begins when the 18 passenger charter van picks up guests in Cabo San Lucas at their front door, greeting them with cold bottled water and a comfortable temperature controlled space for the two hour trip to La Paz. The trip often becomes a getting-to-know-you time for guests, seeing many fast friends by the time they arrive in La Paz.

Breakfast and drinks, including what‘s been called “the best bloody mary in all of Baja”, await guests as they get under way, after an introduction to the Captain and Crew and a quick briefing of the safety measures aboard Island Cat. From there the trip is an easy journey, one of relaxation and pampering for the guests as crew members wait on them and their every need.
Arriving at Espiritu Santo is an exciting time, as guests witness the empty white sand beach and crystal clear turquoise waters for the first time. The crew expertly and safely maneuvers Island Cat to anchor, and offloads paddle boards and kayaks for fun in the water.

The reefs of the area are abundant with life - fish, mollusks, and sea turtles populate the surrounding sea like a busy underwater metropolis. A nearby shipwreck offers world-class diving to all levels of experience. And a sea lion colony more than 600 strong is a must-see for visitors of the island.

The day continues to revolve around guests as crew members of Island Cat provide lunch prepared by an onboard chef, and offer unending drinks. As the anchor is pulled, and the peaceful cruise back to port begins, guests are often given a nature show, with dolphins or sting rays jumping happily out of the sea.
