Alternatives to good ideas

It seems that the human race is divided into two sections. The first part consists of people who are always on the lookout for ways to make life better. They are always coming up with new ideas, plans and dreams that will improve the world as we know it. They are optimistic, driven and fun to be with. The second part of humanity are people who are determined to always screw things up.

A good example came up recently. People have been going on around global warming and talking about the planet's fate. A particular problem for the future is that we know that we are rapidly approaching the time when oil supplies will run out. It is bad news for drivers, carriers and travelers. An alternative is to find other fuels except gasoline, gasoline and kerosene. A good proposal seems to be that we could grow crops that we could be in fluid rich in oil rather than have to dig them out of the ground. They are called "biofuels". A good idea? Can not go wrong? Do not underestimate the human capacity to mess up! The news is that farmers in Malaysia and islands in the region aimed at growing of biofuels as a way to make a living. To do this, they need land. No problem. They are simply cutting local forests and planting their crops on land that is liberated. They get credit for this, right? No, they hated. Look, the same people who think it's a good idea of cultivating biofuel is also the same people who want to keep the forests in the world alive and diverse. They do not want them chopped down! Ah, how hard you can get. These poor farmers are trying just to earn a living and growing "new petrol 'certainly seems a good way to earn a crust, and it is a growth industry, not oil – which is disappear. But it gets worse. Because biofuels are now so popular, other – more established – farmers are turning their cultivation. Thus, abandoning what they do now, like growing food. So not only are forests in the area and cut it down, but people suffering from food shortages, all caused by that spiffing new idea of growing crops for fuel.

Now, this is not to say that the original idea was not good. No way. If the black stuff are drying up, so what else can we do? Apart from turning off the light for good and all goes back to walking or riding our push bikes seem very few plans for to handle the lack of good oil fields. Planting things that can be transformed into things that fill your tank at your local gas station has to be a grand scale. But chopping down forests in order to achieve this? How did the bright idea from? This senseless proposal came from the first, the sound, so perhaps the first thought was wrong? No, it's just that you should be so aware of how an idea put into practice as you are, what is being done. A good example from history is that after the 1870 Education Act in England, was decided to conduct inspections of schools to check that they were all after the Act letter. These inspectors were up with a grandiose plan to ensure that teachers were teaching and students learned: they decided to give the children some simple tests, especially on reading and writing, just to be sure the new system was working. But – and there is always a but – when the school realized how important these tests were and what their future was dependent of getting good results, and they just ordered the teachers to drop everything else and concentrate on ensuring the children knew enough to pass exams. All other training was dropped. The result? A narrow, limited curriculum, based solely on the need to pass inspections, not to give children something resembling a good start in life. It was not unique. It is not just in 1870 when this happened. We had the same result in Britain after 1997 also.

There is a simple way out, and it involves a test too. The test is: if we have arrived at this destination, and we did not want to come here, so we took a wrong turn somewhere. Let us back up, find out where we went wrong and resolve the problem there. Try testing with the forest scenario and ask yourself the question, did we want people cutting trees down to solve the shortage of oil? If not, we need a new plan: How can we make bio-fuel without destroying the forest? There must be an answer to this question, certainly. If you find it, you will be heaped with praise. But be sensible! Cue the British Government. They have an answer, and it speaks for themselves. Their logic is that we do not want dirty coal plants and we do not want carbon dioxide, coming from oil-fired power plants. How can we create new clean power? Well, we can support wind and wave power generation, but there may not be enough in itself. Wait, we've got it. We will build some more nuclear plants it answers. Now you on the back, were you aware? Then answer this question. The people who agree that coal and oil are bad things, do you really that they are the same people who would vote for nuclear power instead? If you think you know the answer, then you deserve to be in charge of the British government, because our current party clearly do not know what makes a "good idea". In this case, they have not got one.
