Cliff Notes on CBD and Alcohol Recovery

Spread the love

CBD and alcohol recovery is a multi-faceted topic. You may drink the occasional beer, wine or other alcoholic beverage but not be considered an alcoholic. Alcohol still damages the liver, etc, whether you are an alcoholic or not. So, the first aspect of alcohol and CBD is the fact that CBD protects against alcohol-induced cell damage.

Secondly, CBD mitigates the blood alcohol concentration and addiction and withdrawal symptoms.  CBD and alcohol recovery is good news for those wanting to break their alcohol addiction.

CBD and Alcohol Recovery – Alcohol-infused CBD

One of the recent things which has surfaced is that of infusing different products with CBD to double up on the healing and the effects. Alcohol makers have joined in the “infusion business.” CBD-infused shots, beers, and other alcoholic beverages are some of the products that are in the marketplace.

Alcohol generally puts one in overdrive without inhibitions. It may also promote feelings of relaxation.  CBD can relax and calm as well, so the question is about the safety of combining alcohol and CBD.

72 people in a study showed that taking 25 — 75 mg of CBD daily for only 30 days reduced anxiety and improved rest sleep. The answer to the above question is that taking alcohol and CBD together could amplify the effects of increased sleepiness and sedation.

One small study researched the effects on participants of 200 mg of CBD with 1 gram of alcohol for every 2.2 pounds of the individual’s body weight.  Not all individual’s reactions were the same but generally, the study directors observed that combining CBD and alcohol recovery can be advantageous on many fronts. But everyone reacts differently so be cautious of using CBD hemp flower till you find out the best dosage for you.

CBD and Alcohol Recovery – Prevention of Cell Damage and Disease

Sufficient research has been done that show CBD may protect against the negative effects of alcohol on the body and mind.  It is well-documented that excessive alcohol consumption will damage many different types of cells in the body. This increases the possibility of inflammation and chronic diseases such as liver disease, pancreatitis, and certain types of cancer.

Because of some recent studies, it seems CBD may mitigate cell damage up to 49% that is caused by alcohol.  This is true even when the CBD is applied to the skin or by taking sublingual drops.  In some studies, CBD has shown to not only mitigate cell damage but even helps with tissue regeneration that may be caused by alcohol consumption.

May Reduce Blood Alcohol Levels

Blood alcohol concentration (BAC), a measure of the amount of alcohol in your blood, correlates with the amount of motor control and cognitive function which an individual has or does not have.

Again, there is not enough research yet but one small study of 10 people found that it if an individual took 200 mg (which is a very large dose) of CBD with the alcohol then the BAC is significantly lower than if they took the same amount of alcohol.

Benefits of CBD for Alcohol Addiction

Some studies show that CBD reduces symptoms of alcohol addiction and withdrawal. In fact, one recent study looked at the effects of CBD in alcohol-addiction, it found that CBD prevented relapse and decreased motivation to consume alcohol.

Some recent studies show that CBD may reduce liver and brain-cell damage caused by alcohol. It may also help decrease blood alcohol levels and even help treat alcohol use disorder, though more research is needed.  There is currently not enough research to determine the effects of mixing CBD and alcohol.

The bottom line is that CBD acts as an inhibitor to control any number of addictive behaviors for alcohol or any number of drugs because it acts as an agonist of 5-HT1a serotoninergic receptors that regulate compulsive behaviors.

“CBD and Alcohol” Last Words

There are some recent studies which show the use of CBD hemp flower may be successful or effective during addiction treatment. Even though it is unclear why and how it helps, does not mean it does not help. Some scientists and medical professionals believe that CBD may affect how the damaged brain cells communicate with each other. Again, it is about the signaling in the great network of the endocannabinoid system.

Addiction recovery is a very personal journey, and everyone gets to make their own final decision. There will never be a straightforward answer to these kinds of questions because ultimately, it’s up to you. One can abuse anything to check out and escape reality, from alcohol to food, sex to sugar. CBD is not addictive or does it cause any type of psychoactive high.  CBD hemp flower in a variety of forms is safe to use and it is well known that it mitigates anxiety, depression, pain, or another issue which you may be facing in recovery.
