Water is the most crucial part of the human surviving; its neutral, acidic or alkaline nature, depending upon the pH level it holds, makes it useful.

The pH level helps the water’s hydrogen ion concentration, and it’s needed to be determined while using it in applications. For determining the pH level of water, the pH level testers are used, as it is essential to monitor the pH of the water to know its chemical properties such as solubility and more.  Knowing it helps you to decide if it’s favourable for consumption or not.   Moreover, there are many brands of the best pH level tester for water available; you should choose to depend upon the factors mentioned below with the same tricks and tips and tricks.

Typically a water pH tester is built with two components:

  1. A digital or moving coil pH metre
  2. Two probes (some devices can have one probe also).

These probes act as different electrodes, which simplify the working of the tester. These two components should be durable enough to bear contamination, chemical particles, and other water elements that depend upon their use.

  • You should always choose the best pH tester for water with a double junction electrode, as these electrodes get easily damaged by contamination. This will be very useful when solid particles, chemicals or sludge such as wastewater, pulp and paper are involved during applications.

How To Use a pH Meter?

When you need to test the water sample for its pH level, you will need a testing kit. The kit will have a pH metre, probes stirrer, a pH electrode, a calibrated cylinder, a jar or beaker, sample of the ionized water and buffers. Then the testing process of water will start following these steps:

  1. At first, we set the pH metres logarithmic scale from 1 to 15 in which acidic nature is marked from 1-6, 7 is neutral, and alkaline is from 8 to 14.
  2. Now the calibrated jar is taken and filled with a standard sampling quantity that is 100 ml water to carry on the pH test.
  3. Then pH metre is switched ON and is allowed to warm up for 30 minutes.
  4. There should be no or reduced exposure of the sample to air, as it may react.
  5. Then the probe is rinsed, and pH mode is set and placed in a neutral buffer solution for calibration. Again in pH 4 or pH 9 buffer solution, it allows the meter to calibrate for an acidic or basic solution.
  6. Then buffer solutions are stirred well.
  7. Any excess liquid is shaken off from the device before placing it in the sample.
  8. After placing, the pH button is pressed to measure 2 minutes, and a reading is taken.
  9. Lastly, take the reading of other buffer solutions. Rinse the electrode and keep it safely for after use.
